Conclusion paragraph for the Integrated Resort

Therefore, our decision is clear. Evidently, building IR in Singapore would unmistakably increase the number of tourist visits. Yet, it endangers Singapore even more as it attracts both tourists and terrorists, risking the endangering of more innocent lives. It also causes many social problems for us although the IR may solve our economic needs. Then again, there seems to be a contradiction. It solves our economic needs yet it does us more harm than good. Money lost to gambling and restoring of the situation. Why earn money only to waste it? Consider this before Singapore builds another “tourist attraction” on impulse. Remember, in order for our country to move forward, we need to have a peaceful community and enough wealth wisely spent for it too.

TITLE: The government should NOT build the integrated resort.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, honourable guests. May I ask a simple question? What would be the Integrated Resort(IR) to you? Rise in economic, leisure and recreation. These good things have no wrong in them. However, ladies and gentlemen, have you thought about the undesirable consequences that come out of these developments once they are done? Therefore, I stand here today, to share a thought of mine about why, the government should not build the Integrated Resort.

Building the IR encourages gambling. As you have noticed in recent years, the government has been emphasizing strongly to prevent people from becoming gambling addicts. They have taken great steps like mass advertising on television and screening programmes that specially remind against this habit. However, the government had decided to build the IR, which includes a casino. Doesn’t this contradict to all their efforts to put an end to gambling? By building a casino in Singapore, I am definitely sure that many people will be tempted to gamble. I agree that the government has been dealing with this problem by leaning heavily on the media, but ladies and gentlemen think about it, will it really help? They are opening their doors to encourage people into gambling and how many people will really listen to those reminders? I feel that the government has been doing well in stopping gambling so I believe that they should not make this wrong step.

Gambling will bring along many necessaries. A snowball it will be, becoming bigger and bigger the longer it rolls on the ground. Debt-ridden gamblers want to get back what they’ve lost. This exerts stress on the breadwinner of the family. What will happen to their wives and children? Have you not spared a thought about them? Families will be broken apart, poor and unable to make ends meet. Is this what the government wants out of the IR?

As a result, the government will have to spend more money and manpower to solve these problems. They would need to hire more counsellors to counsel gamblers who are addicted to it and cannot kick the habit. Besides, the government will have to start encouraging Singaporeans against gambling again.

One of the things gambling invite is the introduction of loan sharks. When these gambling addicts run out of cash they will look towards illegal moneylender and borrow large sums of money with high interest rates. When they are unable to clear off debts on time, these violent loan sharks threaten him and his family, causing much stress. This will put Singapore in a state of worry, resulting in unrest in the community.

Secondly, Singapore is not the only country with casinos and theme parks. There are many countries depending on them too, like the IR in Singapore, to attract tourist. Why must Singapore jump into the bandwagon too? If Singapore wants to increase tourist arrivals, why can't we use other means to attract them? Why must we go into this competition and Singapore might not stand to benefit because other countries have so much land to build more than casinos and theme parks. An example is Las Vegas. This project might even lead to rivalry between countries. Hence, is having IR so important that it can create conflicts?

In addition, with more tourists from around the world, it will make Singapore a more attractive target for terrorists to plan terrorist attacks. This will cause unwanted problem for us. Not only will it hurt our economy but also threaten to weaken our social cohesion.

Therefore, our decision is clear. Evidently, building IR in Singapore would unmistakably increase the number of tourist visits. However it will cause many social problems for us although the IR may solve our economic needs. Consider this before you decide to build another “tourist attraction” on impulse. Remember, in order for our country to move forward, we need to have a peaceful community too.

Corrected body of speech--Grp7:

First paragraph:

Do you not realize that the laws are contradicting themselves? They clearly states that murder is illegal. Ironically, it also states that abortion is legal. Do you not feel that abortion is murder? Do you not see that it is murdering a life that has not even started? Since the law stated that murder is illegal, abortion should be made illegal too. At this, all the women who have undergone abortion would have been put to death. Abortion needs to be illegalised to protect the lives that haven't begun yet. That, is what we have come forth to declare.

Last paragraph :

In conclusion, abortion should be made illegal as it harms expectant mothers and their health. Through great loss of blood, in some cases, both lives might be lost. It is also considered as murder to abort a baby as it is the killing of life. Aborting the child means shirking of responsibilities and inhumanity as it shows the neglect these parents have. Through the negativity which has been laid down before us, we have seen the consequences of abortion and there for, we stand clear that abortion is and should be made, illegal. Thank you.

We say, that abortion should be legalised.

Firstly, if abortion was illegal, irresponsible parents may neglect their children. In India, many unfortunate newborn girls are poisoned with seeds, or scalded to death by soup. Their parents do not even feel any grief or remorse over their own devious acts. Murdering their flesh and blood was like lifting their fingers. These girls are sold into prostitution when they become toddlers. Such miserable fates are the lives of children as a result of not being aborted. Put yourselves in their shoes, how will you feel?

Think of the families with financial difficulties, who struggle to make ends meet. It would surely be easier for them to abort the unborn child. Otherwise, both the mother and child would have to struggle through harsh situations. The child may not get enough food,so much to speak about the chance to go to school. The child and its family may live in dilapidated houses, filthy conditions. In this case, if the child’s immunity system is weak, he or she might easily fall sick. Where do they get the money to visit the doctor? When the sickness deteriorate, will he or she perish away into nothing?

Even if the child survives, he will be forced to enter the working world at a very early age. No parents would wish to see their child in such pain and suffering. Any loving parent would want their child to be happy, and contented. If they knew that their child would suffer so much when it is born into this corrupted world, they would definitely want to end its suffering before it is even started.

Alas, you have been outwardly treating abortion with great loathing. Why can't you, you might ask. There are many reasons. Have it ever crossed your mind; the foetus might be deformed. Do you still think that the innocent child should be born and let to suffer on this earth by some crooked stereotypes to let them be look down upon? Think of emotional damage this might have on the parents as well as the child. Imagine the reluctance of these mothers at the thought of murdering their flesh and blood.

What if the mother was raped?Ladies and gentlemen, think about it, who would want to have the child of someone she doesn't love, someone who left her a living memory of the incident. What if the victim was teenager at the tender age of 13 or 14? If she kept the child, her bright, prosperous future will be lost forever. What would people see of her? The image of the poor girl would have undesirable marks that separates her from the rest of the people. The girl would have to endure stares by strangers who discriminate her. But put aside image and egotism, imagine the heavy burden she has for herself, will she be able to look after the baby with her own abilities in the future or can she get over her past and not be haunted by the horrible memories?

Yes, there can be solutions to these things. Babies can be put up for adoption. But is it the best choice? Even after giving away the baby, can the girls just forget everything that happened by just sleeping on it? It would be impossible! The guilt will forever be in their hearts, never letting it down.

What about older women? If they give birth, they may be too old to provide for the child and giving birth to them post a big risk. For example, a woman who is 50, was pregnant. If the child is born, the mother can only be with the child for about 15 to 20 years. The parents will not be able to work and provide for the child. Beside that, it is very hard on the mother to give birth to the child. The mother may not survive the ordeal. Think about how much pain a young mother have to go through to give birth. Older mothers go through twice the pain.

The terrors of the isolated desert.

I ROAMED around the cracked, isolated desert, as i HOBBLED with my badly scarred leg. "Was I, the only one who survived that horrible plane crash?" I shuddered at the vivid image stucked in my mind. Blood, terror, screams , helplessness...corpse.......... My mind suddenly came back to reality form a disturbance. My stomach acted again, giving off an annoyed growl, which seems to be hinting yet again that it had not been filled for days. "What choice did i have?" I thought as i stared into the vast, unending nothingness.
Suddenly, my foot landed in a oval dent in the sand. As i looked up, i saw a whole trail of it ahead of me. " Camel footprints!" I exclaimed." It could be a way out!" A glimpse of hope sparkled in my worn and tired eyes, and I TRAILED the footprints eagerly, forgetting the constant pain that seared through my leg.
Not long after, i STUMBLED upon a spikey green object. Picking myself up, i took a closer look at it-- a tiny cactus. Unbothered by it, i walked on, but stopped a few moments later. In front of my tiny existance stood hundreds and thousands of giant looking cactus which stretched across miles and miles away. They stood rooted to the ground, while sharp spikes and torns pierced out from the inside. Somehow they seemed like green armoured soldiers preparing for war.
I stared at it for a few moments, and stared down at the last camel footprint which mysteriously ended there. There was no way i could have walked through the sea of cactuses with a healthy body, much less in such a weak condition i am now. Disappointed, i RETREATED back to wandering the desert, now positively sure that there was no way to get out of this endless nightmare.

It's Working! It's Working!

Ernest staggered a few steps. He leaned against the nearest tree, panting. To his utter horror, he heard a low rumble and a draw of breath. He spun around. His furry attacker lumbered towards him, letting out another low growl. As quickly as he could, he limped away, trying to fing his was out of the dense forest.

Ernest felt the unexpected sting of bear claws sink into the flesh on his back. The blow caused him to fall face down on the grassy forest floor right in front of a tree. He scrabbled at the grass and tree roots, trying despretly to muster the strength to get up.

When he finally did, he found himself face-to-face with the huge brown bear. Ernest glanced around, his pulse raced. The tree's roots were about fifty centimeters above the ground. There was not enough time to leap over them. The bear was too close!

Somewhere in the background Ernest heard a swiss of air. However, he ignored it, thinking it was just his imagination.

There was only one thing he could think of to save himself. Expiring every last ounce of his energy, he shouted with all his might at the bear, and made as much noise as he could. The second he shouted, the bear jerked, shocked, amd froze in mid-air for a second. It's working! It's working! Ernest thought to himself, overflowing with relief and joy. The animal tottered on one hind paw before falling forwards and lying limp on the dew covered grass, an arrow pierced into its back. There, about ten meters away from him, stood Ernest's saviour.

Our Fabulous Speech

Title: Why abortion should be legalised

Short term cruelty or long term burden? You have a choice. To end it with abortion or not to? People see it as an act of evil, murder, but for others, it might be their only solution. Why are people seeing these helpless ladies as heartless beasts? Let us have a second opinion. Whether this act should be banned or legalised, it remains to be seen. Ask yourselves, is it unforgivable to go through abortion, which is to some an inevitable process? Did you ever hear the heartening cries of these women? Therefore, allow me to give a speech about why abortion should be legalised.
